Temporal Order Judgments in Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorders – Explicit and Implicit Measures

چکیده

Abstract Ordering events in time is essential for the understanding of causal relationships between successive events. Incorrect links can lead to false beliefs and an altered perception reality. These symptoms belong psychosis, which present schizophrenia (SZ) spectrum bipolar (BP) disorder. Experimental results show that patients with SZ have temporal order, while there are no data BP. We investigated ability SZ, BP, controls judge order stimuli a 100-ms Stimulus Onset Asynchrony (SOA), how such large asynchronies facilitate judgments small asynchronies. Explicit effects suggest perform worse at long SOA (100 ms) as compared controls, whereas BP difference or SZ. Implicit reveal improved performances case identical different relative two trials all groups, differences groups. replicated explicit impairments implicit appear be preserved. This difficulty consciously might understood under light loosening-of-associations phenomenon well described Further, we showed do not impairment consistent phenomenological descriptions, suggesting experience

Measuring the Effectiveness of Explicit and Implicit Instruction through Explicit and Implicit Measures

Many studies have examined the effect of different approaches to teaching grammar including explicit and implicit instruction. However, research in this area is limited in a number of respects. One such limitation pertains to the issue of construct validity of the measures, i.e. the knowledge developed through implicit instruction has been measured through instruments which favor th...

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Explicit and Implicit Form-Focused Instruction on Explicit and Implicit Knowledge of EFL Learners

Although explicit and implicit knowledge of language learners are essential to theoretical and pedagogical debates in second language acquisition (SLA), little research has addressed the effects of instructional interventions on the two knowledge types (R. Ellis, 2005).This study examined the relative effectiveness of explicit and implicit types of form-focused instruction (FFI) on the acquisit...

Implicit and explicit associative memory in patients with schizophrenia.

Control and Schizophrenic subjects performed memory tests under conditions in which performance is influenced by newly acquired information about associations between pairs of normatively unrelated words (a 'context' word and a target word). In Experiment 1, the associative memory test was implicit. Control and schizophrenic subjects reached the same level of performance and, more importantly, ...

Temporal order judgments activate temporal parietal junction.

Perceptual temporal order judgments require an individual to determine the relative timing of two spatially separate events. Here we reveal the brain regions involved with this task. We had participants observe perceptually identical visual stimuli while conducting two different tasks: discriminating temporal order or discriminating spatial properties. By contrasting the functional magnetic res...

Implicit and Explicit Instruction and EFL Learners’ Implicit Knowledge Development: Evidence from Word Monitoring Task

Research on the effect of implicit and explicit instruction on developing learners’ explicit knowledge by the use of measures of explicit knowledge abounds in the literature. However, measuring learners’ implicit knowledge employing fine-grained measures has rarely been the concern of researchers in the field. Therefore, the present study is an attempt to scrutinize the effectiveness of implici...
